Laser machining of carbon fibre-reinforced plastic composites

Abstract: This chapter studies the laser beam fibre-reinforced plastic composites (FRP) interaction and heat affected zone (HAZ) generation during laser processing. The chapter first reviews effects of inhomogeneous material structures and laser processing parameters on HAZ and techniques to reduce HAZ. The chapter then discusses the experimental investigation of UV laser machining of CFRP and numerical modelling the heat transfer phenomena in the UV laser processing of CFRP.
