Boost the Performance of MBOK DS-UWB with Decision Feedback ISI Cancellation

M-ary bi-orthogonal keying direct sequence UWB (MBOK DS-UWB) systems have been considered a type of PHY suitable for future high-speed wireless personal area networks (WPANs). In multipath fading channels, high speed signals will suffer from serious intersymbol interference (ISI) and interpulse interference (IPI) phenomena which degrade the performance and cause "error floor". In this paper, we propose a decision feedback (DF) based scheme to achieve successive ISI cancellation (SIC). The proposed DF-SIC scheme can be used jointly with fractionally spaced (FS) Rake receivers. Performance is verified with simulations over the UWB single-user link with data rates of 110 Mbps and 220 Mbps. Numerical results show that the hybrid of DF-SIC and FS Rake can effectively boost the BER performance of MBOK DS-UWB in typical UWB channels
