Abstract Given an automorphism ψ of a finite cyclic group C and a natural number, n , a criterion is given to determine whether or not ψ has a cycle of length m . Further, a number-theoretic formula, involving the Euler -function is given, to determine the exact number of such cycles. Some further group properties of such automorphisms are also discussed.
