On sampled data systems with cyclically varying rates

Abstract This paper is concerned with a multiple sampler system with cyclically varying sampling rates. The problem of measuring a desired quantity using several instruments and the problem of transmitting telemetering data over parallel channels are special cases of the system considered. The cyclically varying sampling rates would arise when a certain equipment, such as a digital computer, is used by all channels on a time shared basis. Optimum linear time-varying smoothing filters are determined when the instruments are assumed to be linear time invariant. Optimum linear periodic presampling filters are determined when the smoothing filters are linear and time invariant. Both physically realizable and unrealizable cases are considered. The generalization to systems where the given operations are periodically time-varying is also presented.
