TOWARD A NEW PSYCHOPHYSICS BASED ON GEOMETRY AND STOCHASTIC SYSTEMS THEORY

Our goal in this paper is to develop a global, long-term program for psychophysics. We outlinean approach to based on differential geometry and stochastic systems theory. This approachunifies both the temporal aspects of perception as well as the possibly complex multidimensionalspaces underlying a perceptual process. We then take a specific example of this approach,RTGRT, which is an extension of the static (geometric) General Recognition Theory modelto the (noisy) matching of perceptual information to stored memory and the resultant accrualof evidence over time. The static notions of perceptual and decisional interactions are givendynamic interpretations, and associated formalisms are presented.
