Mean properties of the turbulent near wake of a slender body with and without base injection.

An experimental study has been made of the mean-near-wake flow of an adiabatic twodimensional wedge at Mach 4 with tripped turbulent boundary layers, and with base mass addition. The measurements consisted of centerline static pressure, base-pressure, and pilot-pressure surveys. Helium and nitrogen were used as injectants, and similar effects were obtained when either the velocity of the injectants or the enthalpy flux of the injectants was matched. The wake velocity profiles with and without base injection were found to be similar when properly normalized. The recirculation region was shown to be only slightly displaced with base injection and to decrease in size with increasing mass addition until it vanished. 6 d H ht M p Pb R Re Nomenclature
