Performance optimization of pure permanent magnet undulators

An application of the simulated annealing technique to the problem of optimizing the performance of pure permanent magnet undulators is described. This method has been applied to the optimization of the first two undulators for Elettra. Predictions are shown to be in good agreement with the actual measurements of undulator sections which have been performed so far.<<ETX>>
