The Use of Dislocation Theory in Magnetoelasticity

The notion of quasi dislocations is used to describe the sources of internal stresses in a nonuniformly magnetized body which is otherwise perfect. Energy densities and interaction energies with other defects are derived in the same formalism. The distortion tensor (strains and rotations) is calculated in the case of a plane infinite wall; the difference between elastically stable and unstable walls is emphasized. The junction of plane walls is also studied, and an approach to the calculation of the distortion they produce is proposed, using the notion of disclinations. As an illustration, the physics of the 90° zigzag wall in iron is briefly discussed.
