Analysis of Vibration Energy Dissipation with Vibro-impact Absorber

The numerical simulation is performed for the transient response of a multiple-degree-of-freedom(MDOF) structure induced by a shock-type excitation. Comparisons are made for the responses of the primary structure before and after attachment of a vibro-impact absorber to demonstrate its rapid mitigating effect on the vibration level as well as the robustness. The capacity of the energy dissipation and transfer of the absorber is researched on the basis of the linear vibration theory, and the redistribution of the modal energies due to the inelastic vibro-impact is revealed in detail. The design parameters of the vibro-impact absorber are studied so as to enhance its mitigation efficacy. The final results of the energy dissipation are explicitly illustrated with graphs.
