Toward an implementation of sliding mode control to chemical processes

In this paper, a sliding mode control based on a first-order-plus-dead-time model of the process is developed and a set of tuning equations, using the Nelder-Mead searching algorithm, as a function of the characteristic parameters of the first-order-plus-dead-time model. Using a PID algorithm the sliding mode control is implemented. A nonlinear chemical process is simulated and the proposed controller's performance is judged and compared with a PID controller.
