Smart phone based online QoE assessment for end-to-end multimedia services on 3G mobile Internet

Although there are already QoE metrics for some types of multimedia services on Internet, in the area of multimedia services over 3G mobile Internet, only 3GPP defines QOE metrics for popular multimedia services. To find the user perception on these metrics, a subjective assessment framework is proposed, where distorted video samples are generated by mapping from a simple End-to-End QoS (EQoS) metric set, and a new subjective assessment method, User Satisfaction Threshold Measurement (USTM) is designed. Hereafter, to formulate the subjective assessment in a most natural way, a smart phone based QoE assessment system managing the distorted video samples of the metrics, implementing USTM, providing an online test agent on smart phone to let subjects join the test at any places, is designed. As the result of the subjective assessment, four user satisfaction thresholds, multi-level user opinions, the user attention degree and their mapping to the parameters in EQoS, are obtained, providing useful guidelines for network plans, source productions and player deployment to network services providers like China Mobile.
