ENERGY DEPENDENCE OF FISSION FRAGMENT ANISOTROPY

The dependence on energy of the anisotropy of fission fragment emission is discussed in terms of the Bohr model. It is shown that reasonable assumptions about the spectrum of excited states at the barrier lead to results consistent with the currently available data for energies up to 10 Mev and for a variety of target nuclides, except for the fact that the target spin appears to have a much smaller effect on the anisotropy than was predicted. It is suggested that this anomaly may be understood in terms of the deformation of the target nucleus. (auth)
