Statistical Process Control and The Impact of Automatic Process Control

This paper describes the present status of statistical process control from the viewpoint of the statistician. It summarizes twenty papers dating from early 1930 to the present. It indicates the relationship between the traditional concepts in quality control and the new concept of adaptive control.
