A Computer Simulation of a Base Telecommunication Center.

Abstract : The purpose of the study was to examine the use of computer simulation as an analytical aid in the management of a Base Telecommunications Center. The report discusses the communications system in general and the Base Telecommunications Center in specifics. The management areas in which a computer simulation might be helpful are discussed. The nature of the populations of the variables and the problems used to define the boundaries of the system being modeled are presented and examined. The message processing times are used as a significant measure of performance in a Telecommunication Center. The simulation output is compared to the output of the WPAFB Base Telecommunications Center and the differences are discussed. The simulation output is examined to determine its usefulness in determining the effect of different types of equipment, shift schedules, and system changes. The possibility of using a simulation to determine minimum requirements in terms of personnel and equipment was examined. (Modified author abstract)
