Fiber Reinforced Cement Composites

Abstract Second-generation fiber reinforced cement composite (FRC) has become popular as a secondary structural member for exterior and interior wall panels in Japan. There are, however, no application examples as primary structural members. The material costs of FRC, for example, fiber, low-alkaline cement, and aggregate, are definitely greater than those of ordinary concrete. However, total construction costs, including design to installation of the FRC members, are not much different from those of ordinary precast concrete members, owing to fewer structural steel requirements and the higher-speed work process.
