Strategic information systems: use of information technology in a learning organization

The author outlines a framework for discussing the implications of the concept of the learning organization for strategic applications of information technology (IT). The goal is to enable researchers and practitioners to expand the range of potential strategic applications of IT and to focus attention on IT applications which can improve an organization's capability for learning. The author explores the concept of the learning organization, which appears to be more consistent with many aspects of today's environment, as an alternative or supplement to the more established framework of the organization engaged in war. He offers definitions and propositions which suggest IT applications that can enhance an organization's capabilities for strategic learning.<<ETX>>
