All Together for Quantum Computing

A consortium of researchers from Caltech, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the University of Southern California has founded an institute for Quantum Information and Computing at Caltech to test the promise of quantum computers—hypothetical devices that would harness the ambivalence of quantum-mechanical states to compute faster than the fastest possible classical computer. Funded with a 5-year, $5 million grant from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the institute-without-walls unites researchers who will work on different pieces of the quantum-computing puzzle.
