A new Modulated Model Predictive Control method for mitigation of effects of constant power loads

In this paper a new Modulated Model Predictive Control (MPC) method has been proposed to overcome the stability problems caused by a constant power load (CPL) in cascaded converter system. The proposed method calculates the duty cycle of the converter switches based on the predicted value of the converter output voltage when two different switching configurations are chosen to be applied to the converter and associates the CPL current and voltage with the predictions to ensure the stabilization of the CPL states. The method does not need to be compensated for the delay introduced by the calculations over a wide operation range. Experimental results have been provided to support the idea.
