Archaeology without Squares: A Computerised System for Recording and Visualising the Excavation of a 19th Century Maori Village

A report on an archaeological excavation of a mid-19th century fortified Maori village, Oropuriri, in the Taranaki region of New Zealand, where over 50, 000 artefacts were recovered in an area excavation covering around 3000 square metres is presented. It was a challenge for the archaeologist to excavate an artefactually rich site where number of pieces of bottle glass, ceramics and metal objects as well as faunal remains and several other artefact types were associated with around 2500 features.
