Crane load modelling

Abstract Based on the theory of stochastic processes, a model for the vertical load on columns of buildings due to one or two overhead travelling cranes was developed. In case of two cranes, it is assumed that they move either on the same crane track (then load modelling includes “clustering” effects) or in neighbouring bays. Characteristic values, partial safety factors and combination factors have been estimated on the basis of extensive numerical studies, which may be used for future code provisions on crane loads.
