Numerical simulation of fluid flow in a continuous rotor-stator mixer

Though continuous rotor-stator mixers are widely used in many industrial processes,there are very few reports on their numerical simulation.The fluid field in a rotor-stator mixer was numerically simulated by using computational fluid dynamics(CFD) package FLUENT6.1.The multi-reference frame(MRF) and the standard k-e two equation turbulent model were used in the simulation.The velocity field predicted by CFD was in a reasonable agreement with that given by the literature.The pressure predicted by CFD was in a reasonable agreement with that given by the experiment.The maximum of shear rate,turbulent kinetic energy and the energy dissipation rate increase with the rotor speed,the minimum absolute pressure of the field decreases with the rotor speed.The results are of the importance to the optimum of industry continuous rotor-stator mixers.
