Investigation of the Combustion Process in a Scramjet Model Combustor with a Sampling Probe System

The combustion process in a hydrogen fueled scramjet model combustor with a rectangular cross section has been investigated with a water cooled gas sampling probe. Concentration profiles of H2, O2, N2 and H2O have been determined in several measuring cross sections, which give information upon the mixing and consumption of the hydrogen injected from the backside of a wedge shaped strut injector with integrated expansion ramps into a supersonic hot air flow. Special attention has been given to realize a probe with a low influence on the occurring flow and combustion processes.
