A Novel Time Alignment Technique for Online PD Location in Covered Conductors

This letter presents a double-side measuring method for online partial-discharge (PD) detection and location in covered conductor (CC) lines. To synchronize both PD sampling units mounted on two separate sides, a novel time alignment technique is proposed and implemented using the combination of a pulse injector and a pulse detector. A laboratory experiment on a 10-kV CC line was conducted to verify the feasibility of this technique.
