Implementation of an SMS Spam Control System Based on Trust Management

Communication networks (e.g., the Internet and cellular networks) play an important role in our modern life for information dissemination and communications. However, at the same time when people gather and exchange useful information through networks, they also receive unwanted data and contents, such as malware, spam, spy ware, intrusions and unsolicited commercial advertisements. For example, SMS spam has caused a serious problem to mobile users by intruding user devices, occupying device memories and irritating mobile users. Unwanted traffic control (UTC) has become a crucial issue that impacts the future success of communication networks. This paper presents the design and implementation of an SMS spam control system based on trust management. We evaluate the system performance under a variety of intrusions and attacks. The result shows that the system is effective with regard to accuracy, efficiency and robustness. It can control SMS spam from its source to destinations according to trust evaluation.
