Coordinated decentralized control of AC/DC power systems

A coordinated decentralized controller for hybrid AC/DC system is proposed to attain fast stabilization against transient oscillations. A direct feedback law (DFL) for the generator excitation is found to linearize and decouple the hybrid system. Robust nonlinear control theory and linear matrix inequality (LMI) techniques are employed to design the guaranteed performance excitation controller. DC power modulation control is applied to enhance AC system stability. The proposed coordinated controller is decentralized and based on local measurements. Simulation tests and results show that the proposed controller is effective in enhancing power system transient stability despite operating conditions, fault locations and network parameters.
