Potential involvement of cellular ageing in the pathogenesis of arthritis

Recently, attention has been drawn to the involvement of cellular ageing in the pathogenesis of bone and joint diseases. We reviewed the mechanism underlying degeneration of bone and cartilage tissues, from a viewpoint of the senescence of cells composing the joints. We demonstrated not only the mechanism controlling ageing but also the development of new methods of treatment and prophylactic measures for diseases affecting bone and joint tissues in the future.
