EXTROVERT OR INTROVERT? THE REAL PERSONALITIES OF COMPUTING STUDENTS

This paper considers the personality types of computing students based at three institutions: Universities of Kent, Portsmouth and York. All the students are in their first year of a degree in computing, however while the students at Kent and York are traditional first year undergraduates undertaking degrees in Computer Science the Portsmouth students are a mix of mature full-time and part-time students undertaking a conversion style MSc in Information Systems. Overall the results show that the personalities types as assessed using the Myers-Briggs self-reporting questionnaire are broadly similar across each institution as is the student population mix and their preferred learning styles.
