Laser-beam scanning system using an acoustic-optic deflector : its application to fundus imaging

A new laser-beam scanning system applicable to the imaging of the human eye fundus is proposed and studied. The system uses an acousto-optic deflector (AOD) for the horizontal deflector of the high scanning frequency corresponding to the NTSC standard television. The optical dispersion due to the AOD is compensated with an electronic signal processor and colour imaging is achieved. Colour variations due to fundus layers of the human eye are observable under the low light illumination.
