Performance Analysis of SSSC in a Multi-Machine Transmission Network during different Fault Conditions

Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) devices are used in the system for improved utilization of power networks. This paper presents the modeling and simulation of Static Synchronous series compensator (SSSC) used in multimachine power system under symmetrical and unsymmetrical fault and compares their performances. It has been observed that settling time of oscillations and transient peak of bus voltages and line power after the occurrence of fault are decreased in case of L-G fault and when SSSC is used. After rigorous comparison, it has been found that symmetrical fault is much severe than the unsymmetrical fault and the SSSC controller exhibit excellent performance in rapid mitigation of power system oscillations thereby enhancing the stability of the system.
