MODELLING THE UNLOCKING AND SLIP OF CRACK SURFACES UNDER MODE II LOADING

ABSTRACT A simple Coulomb frictional model of the interaction between the flanks of a crack under Mode II loading is developed. It is shown to reproduce the observed unlocking and slip behaviour of Mode I fatigue cracks under cyclic Mode II loading.
