Scintiscanning with gallium citrate 67. Diagnosis of head and neck malignant neoplasms.

Gallium citrate 67 scintigraphy was employed as a means for tumor diagnosis in 55 patients with suspected new or known previous history of squamous cell carcinoma involving the head and neck and in 23 patients with systemic lymphoreticular malignant neoplasm. In 34 of 55 (61.9%) patients with head and neck neoplasia and 20 of 23 (86.9%) patients with lymphoreticular malignant neoplasms, results of scintiscans correlated with clinical status. However, further study is required before routine use of the isotope can be applied to clinical study of tumors that involve the head or neck.
