Effect of Free Stream Turbulence on the Drag Coefficient of Bluff Sharp-edged Cylinders

THE effect of turbulence on the drag coefficient of spheres, circular cylinders and so on has been widely studied, but the effect on sharp-edged bodies, such as square cylinders, has received little attention. It has usually been assumed that as the point of flow separation is fixed (that is, at the corners) the flow around sharp-edged bluff bodies is independent of Reynolds number, and any possible effect of free stream turbulence has been neglected.
