Design and development of hydraulically driven fire fighting water monitor trailer

Fire extinguishing, on site, is a time consuming process because of large distance between the point of fire and water monitor trailer. This leads to wastage of large amount of fire extinguishing medium. The water monitor cannot be taken closer to fire because of high temperature and smoke. Hence, effective fire fighting is mostly impossible as it requires delivery of water at right time, right place and in adequate quantity. To reduce the distance between the water monitor and point of fire an innovative hydraulically driven mechanism is proposed in this paper. It is a hydraulically driven vehicle used to drive the water monitor trailer. The vehicle uses the pressurized water flow in the flexible hose to move the trailer in forward direction. The hose properties like straightening, elongation and buckling are prominent for obtaining this motion. When the water is pumped in the hose which is closed at one of the ends then pushing force is developed due to straightening property of the water hose. This paper presents and exemplifies the details about the design and development of this innovative vehicle. This research can lead to subsequent developments in the field of vehicular motion using pressurized water.
