Passivity-Based Control for a Buck-Boost Converter Applied in Small Wind Generation Interconnected to DC Microgrid

This paper synthesizes the knowledge and steps required to regulate the output current of a buck-boost converter through the passivity-based control technique. This converter is the gateway of a wind generation system with a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) connected to a DC microgrid. The calculations for the wind turbine, as well as the pitch angle control, to regulate the torque generated in the rotor, and the estimates for the PMSG are briefly presented. The development of the converter’s passivity theory and the calculations of the passivity-based controller (PBC) are explained in detail. The results of the simulation using the MATLAB/Simulink software and the comparison with another non-linear control technique are shown and discussed.
