COMPARATIVE PATHOGENESIS OF MURINE VIRAL LYMPHOMA.

As a part of a comparative study, the pathogenesis of the disease induced in mice with the Friend and Rauscher viruses was studied histologically. Both viruses produced essentially similar host responses. These responses consisted of an acute proliferation of reticulum cells of the spleen with subsequent dissemination to the liver and peripheral circulation. In both Friend and Rauscher diseases some cases of thymic lymphoma developed later and were superimposed on the splenic lesions. The evolution of these thymic lymphomas was compared with the evolution of the thymic lymphomas in AKR mice and in mice infected with the Rich agent. In all four cases the lymphoma arose unilaterally, in only one of the two thymus glands.
