Analysis of the shift characteristics of an automated manual transmission in the parallel type hybrid drivetrain system of a transit bus

Detailed mathematical models of hybrid drivetrain components are presented and numerical simulations are carried out to analyse shift characteristics and to improve driving comfortability when the hybrid drivetrain is applied to the vehicle. Theoretical results are compared with experimental ones from the dynamometer in equal conditions in order to prove the validity of the modelling. By adding vehicle body modelling that includes the suspension and the engine mount, it is possible to predict the dynamic behaviour and shift characteristics more accurately when shift occurs by automated manual transmission (AMT). These additional results are also compared with the same simulation ones of the conventional engined vehicle equipped conventional manual transmission (MT). It is expected that the hybrid vehicle with AMT has a better shift quality.
