An Approach to Harmonic Flow Control Using Hybrid Series Active/Passive Topologies

This paper will demonstrate that harmonic flow between regions of a power system may be achieved using relatively small active components. Hybrid series compensators are proposed as a solution. Several hybrid series compensator topologies are developed from existing hybrid shunt compensators through duality relationships. The concept is demonstrated in this paper using simulation studies of a typical scenario and one of the topologies proposed. The capability of this topology for harmonic flow control with a relatively small (<0.1% of load) rated active element is clearly demonstrated.
