Sawtooth carrier based Random PWM technique for AC drives

Random PWM techniques have been employed in most of the industrial drive applications. Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) techniques for AC drives have been developed in the early 1990s, but they failed to yield acceptable level of fundamental voltage. Acoustic noise is found to be more in SPWM. To overcome the drawbacks, Random Pulse Width Modulation (RPWM) techniques are introduced. This paper proposes a saw tooth carrier based RPWM for Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) fed Induction Motor (IM) drives. Simulation results prove that proposed RPWM is found to better than conventional RPWM.
