Performance of the Kyoto University Low Density Plasma Jet Wind Tunnel

In order to investigate a low density, highenthalpy, high speed flow with chemical reactions such as dissociation, recombination, ionization and neutralization, a low density plasma jet wind tunnel has been constructed at the Faculty of Aeronautical Engineering of Kyoto University in 1964. Performance tests have been carried out on nitrogen and argon plasma jets. Stagnation temperature of up to 5,000•‹K can be obtained in both plasma jets.
