Preserving Patient Records with Biometrics Identification in e-Health Systems

The increasing technological advancement and usage of Internet has continued to evolve the emergence of proficient health care delivery systems across the globe. Consequently, the concern of data security of patient’s information remains foremost in health management system. It is an undisputable fact that the way record of patient is organized influences how a patient will be taking care of. Patient records that are misrepresented or not well stored have a negative consequence of erroneous prescription. Biometrics authentication as used in security and privacy of health care system is evolving due to advances in technology. This study focused on how to preserve patient records with biometrics identification in health management systems. The main functionalities of the design and implementation of the system were achieved with Unified Modeling Language and Visual Basic.Net. The client application provides access to patient records implemented with Microsoft Access. A dual authentication technique using pin and biometrics was utilized for the purpose of securing the system.
