Research on Life Sign Sensing Based on EMD-ICA in the Terahertz Region

Utilizing terahertz (THz) radar has some advantages in respect of micro-motion sensing owing to its superior Doppler performances. In this paper, a 0.33 THz radar system is introduced and experiments on life sign sensing are presented. In order to lessen the noise, an algorithm based on Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) and Independent Component Analysis (ICA) is proposed. A series of intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) ranked by frequency in descending order are obtained by EMD, and ICA is used to separate the blind source in IMFs with modal mixing noises. The results demonstrate the performances of the proposed algorithm.
