Alternative Shear Reinforcement Guidelines for Blast-Resistant Design

Abstract : The use of some type of shear reinforcement is required by current manuals for the blast-resistant design of reinforced concrete slabs. The primary purpose of this type of reinforcement, normally referred to as shear reinforcement, is not to resist shear forces, but rather to improve performance in the large-deflection region by tying the two principal reinforcement mats of the slab together. Shear reinforcement used in blast-resistant design usually consists of either lacing bars or stirrups.
