STOCHASTIC RESONANCE AND OPTIMAL DESIGN OF THRESHOLD DETECTORS

Abstract We consider the detection of noisy signals with neuron-like threshold crossing detectors in the context of stochastic resonance. On the basis of an exact spectral analysis of the outgoing stochastic spike train, we show for the first time that there are optimal values for the threshold which yield under given environmental conditions optimal performance.
