Enhancement of Visible Light Communication Transceiver using LDPC Codes

Visible Light Communication (VLC) has evolved as one of the technological innovation of modern times that has the potential to become a remedy for the deficit of traditional Radio Frequency (RF) spectrum. In this paper, an enhanced visible light communication (VLC) transceiver design is demonstrated that can provide error-free text transmission at a distance of 2.1 meters. To address the issue of indoor multi-path propagation and short range of VLC, the design mainly consists of Low Density Parity Check Codes (LDPC). The VLC testbed is developed by making use of UART module programmed in MATLAB software. In addition to the physical system, computer-generated simulation programs are also formulated providing the effectiveness of the proposed scheme on bit error rate (BER). The simulation results also confirm that by employing LDPC codes in VLC transceiver design can enhance the overall system performance.
