HAND REHABILITATIONSUPPORTSYSTEM BASEDON SELF-MOTIONCONTROL,WITH A CLINICALCASEREPORT

Thispaperpresents a virtual reality-enhanced handrehabilitation support systemwitha symmetric master-slave motion assistant forindependent rehabilitation therapies. Thissystem consists ofahandexoskeleton device andalateral symmetric master-slave motion assistant system joined withavirtual reality (VR)environment. Since mostdisabilities caused bycerebral vascular accidents orbonefractures arehemiplegic, weadopted asymmetric master-slave motion assistant system inwhichtheimpaired handisdriven bythehealthy handontheopposite side. Furthermore, aVR environment displaying anenjoyable exercise wasintroduced. Toverify the effectiveness ofthis system, aclinical trial wasexecuted using onesubject.
