On the link budget calculation for CDMA systems

Due to the near/far problem of the Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) system, all users need to adaptively change transmission power according to the level of the fading corruption. The level of interference from different interfering users on a desired user can vary, depending on the level of fading. Therefore, in a CDMA system, the interference from other users affects the performance of a desired user in a completely different manner than in other systems such as Frequency Division Multiplexing Access (FDMA). This paper describes an approach to compute the link budget for CDMA systems. Methods for computing the Capacity Margin (CM) and Excess Link Margin (ELM) for mixed services are also described in detail.
