Experimental evaluation of charge laws for road vehicle batteries

The efficiency of electric road vehicles is heavily dependent on electrochemical battery characteristics and performance. In the paper, charge and recharge laws are analysed by means of a model of a battery that is proposed to represent the battery behaviour. In the paper are presented some experimental results, in order to evaluate the battery's ability to recover energy during braking operation. The proposed model is validated through tests realized on a workbench which has been constructed in the Laboratory of the University of Naples. The main characteristics of the workbench are evidenced in the paper. Experimental data coming from testing procedures realized by the University of Naples are analysed and compared to data collected on the road during the activity done within the ATENA Research Project.
