Characterization of proton in Y-doped SrZrO3 polycrystal by IR spectroscopy

Abstract To characterize proton in Y-doped SrZrO 3 polycrystal, protonic conductivities and infrared spectra were measured. IR spectra exhibited two OH bands in 3500-2800 and 2650-2300 cm −1 regions, indicating that proton was bound to lattice oxide ion and that its strength of bonding was rather weak. The decrease in conductivity by replacing H + with D + suggested that the conducting ion was not hydroxide ion but proton and that it migrated via the dissociation of O-H bond.
