Abstract The application of on-line identification technique by a microcomputer-based structure is presented. A solar experimental plant is considered and the process is assumed to be given as a mathematical model of which the structure is known in discrete-form by a priori physical knowledge. The param eter estimation is carried out from normal operating data by using the LS recursive algorithm. The on-line estimated model is analyzed by simulation and compared with real process. A basic feature of the obtained model is its close agreement with the physical phenomena, in spite of the introduced simplifications; moreover it is able to continuosly evaluate the performance of the process. An identifier microprocessor pattern is investigated, which is partic ularly advantageous for the easy data acquisition and low costs.
