High aperture efficient antenna at Ku band

A design of small, compact and high efficient antenna for Ku band application is proposed in this paper. The proposed antenna is highly efficient in terms of radiation efficiency and aperture efficiency. It has a simulated peak aperture efficiency of 76.5% and a peak gain of 12.4 dBi at 13.1 GHz and radiation efficiency of 98%. The antenna structure consists of a resonance slot surrounded by rectangular cavity and two grooves. The grooves and the cavity increase the antenna gain by more than 6 dBi, resulting in a significant enhancement in the aperture efficiency of the antenna. Finally, the operating principles of the proposed antenna are analysed and presented thoroughly.
